A Guitar Riff a day keeps the Doctor away!
UB40 interview - Ireland: February 1982

UB40 formed in Birmingham in 1978 with brothers Ali and Robin Campbell (guitars) and friends Jimmy Brown (drums), Earl Falconer (bass), Yomi Babayemi and Norman Hassan (percussion), Brian Travers (saxophone), and Jimmy Lynn (keyboards).
In Ireland for a six-date tour, UB40 recorded their latest single ‘I Won’t Close My Eyes’ at Windmill Lane Studios. Named after a United Kingdom unemployment benefit form, Brian Travers and Jimmy Lynn explain that the group took up their respective instruments relatively late for most musicians,

I was very softly singing this song to myself when a man who identified with the Black Panthers terrorist group suddenly hit me against the left side of my skull extremely hard. I was too shocked to think clearly on what to do 😢
One of many 70s singers rip not forgotten
I'd like to meet Liz Taylor......jk
If you really want to understand what Zionism is then listen closely to this song and its haunting lyrics. It is a longing without equal to return to the homeland of the Jewish people following their expulsion after the fall of their lands at the hands of the Babylonian Empire. Now homeless in ancient Babylon the Jewish people sat and wept, and wept, and wept by the waters of Babylon for all that they had lost. And from this point, thousands of years ago, they repeated a prayer over the millennia, a vow to return to Jerusalem as a united people: "If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill, May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy. Remember, O LORD, against the sons of Edom the day of Jerusalem's fall, those who said: 'Tear it down!'" But few people, as evidenced by some of the comments in this section, understand what Don McClean's song is really about. Over the decades the Arab-Muslim world have made a mockery out of Zionism and have convinced the world that it is something to be derided. Nothing can be farther from the truth. Zionism is not about conquest, it is rather a longing for the ancestral homeland of the Jews after more than two thousand years of wandering this earth as a people, denied their homeland and paying the price for not having one. McClean's song opens the heart more than any I have ever heard.
Goosebumps!
Psalm 137... By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down, yea, we wept, When we remembered Zion.

They are all going in hell looks like to mr.take it away man...I love this song for eternity....like in revelation 19:20-21... maybe they don't understand what im saying to them but oneday it will all come true
He sounds sound fucking good. I was not convinced it was going to be "live". But I suspect a backing track... He's playing for real, but you don't hear his live piano until the outro, no?
A liddle ol’ ladee got mudiladeed lade las’ nide…. Superb…always….outstanding Liddle o’ladee go-moodle-ah-deedlas-nigh’

A group called Lamb did a great version of this song😔
Sinead O'Connor
Great song and I love the slide guitar!
Out of all the yahoos telling how to play the solo you were the only one to get it right. There are 2 slide solos going at the same time!
Yıllardır eskimeyen eskitemediğim…
Great watch, either old or dead now, priceless footage.
Beautiful song based on Psalm 137 and the exile from Judea to Babylon in 586 BCE. Evokes the deep attachment and yearning of the Jewish people to their ancient homeland.
Cudo's
also very interesting melodies for the Psalm of King David (was it psalm nr 134 ? or 137 ? )
Bring Them Home!
magical...
I can imagine Russell Crowe singing this

I love W.Z. but I have to balk at the crowd applauding him in the TV studio! Yup, that's his crowd.. ya think?
Where's the riff?
It would have been awesome if he said, “Werewolves of Dublin” instead of London for this particular performance.
Well, to be fair to him, he did change Soho to O'Connell Street! :)
Brian was a great saxophonist and Jimmy is an awesome drummer. UB40 found the formula to be a fantastic band. It’s a shame they had the big fall out. The original UB40 can never be replaced.
Where did this mega-rare clip come from ? Amazing
He was a very handsome man ❤
YES. Took my breath away the first time I saw him...
One of the best audience-involvement live songs I've ever heard. Gorgeous.
I agree. It sounds like a choir of Angels.
The song has no connection to An American Werewolf in London, which surprised me.
For all of my people ,soldiers, sitizins, the captured and in remembrance of my jonathan

🤘💯
We laid down and and wept for Thee, Zion! Beautiful 😍
This mustn't be a special request. It should be a passage.
Love this. Didn't know a Banjo could sound and impact like that.
Perhaps it was because of the atrocities of October 7. We laid down and wept for thee, Zion 😢
So beautiful! 😢 Oh, God of Israel your people cry out to You, for you alone are the almighty King of Kings and the only Lord of Lords.
My heart is with the people of Israel. Love to them. GOD PROTECT THE HOSTAGES PLEASE.
Beautiful.💕💕💕
A powerful performance. Amazingly beautiful!
